Brookfield Veterans Night
Due to several requests, Veterans' Night is changing! It will now be every Wednesday night, and it will be at the Legion Post on Miner Road. Come join us from 6-8 PM each Wednesday night, and bring your beverage of choice. Snacks will be available. Veterans' Night is open to all veterans, as well as the Sons of the Legion, the Legion Auxiliary, and their guests.
Any person who has served in the military is welcome to come, and anyone else who is interested in supporting our military is also welcome. Fred Larkin is the contact for Veterans' Nights and he can be reached at (315) 244-7017.

New Yorkers can begin applying Monday, November 18th for the Home Energy Assistance Program to help pay heating bills this winter, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office. For the first time, online applications are available for New Yorkers statewide. HEAP is a federal program that provides up to $650 to individuals and families based on income. National Abolition Hall of Fame Inducts Brookfield Woman
Myrtilla Miner was inducted into the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum Oct. 19 in Peterboro. She was born in North Brookfield March 4, 1815 and went on to establish the first school for African-American girls, against much opposition, in Washington, DC. The school went on to become a successful teacher's institution. An elementary school named in her honor still exists in Washington, DC. On Oct. 24, 2014 the unveiling of the Myrtilla Miner banner that will be in the Hall of Fame took place. A Historical Marker will be placed in North Brookfield Nov. 9th at 10 am.

ALBANY — The state Public Service Commission is urging income-eligible consumers to sign up for a discount telephone service through a program aimed at making New Yorkers safer at home.The Lifeline program provides discounts for monthly residential phone bills for basic telephone service.

The Department of Solid Waste is offering backyard composting supplies at a discounted rate as a service to encourage composting in Madison County. A limited number of composting items are available at half the retail cost.
Residents can pre-order composting supplies at significant discounts: Compost bins - $49.00, kitchen caddies - $7.00, compost turners - $15.00, and rain barrels - $59.00, For more information on the composting items available go to www.madisoncounty.ny.gov. To get in on this great deal, download and print out the order form here, complete it and mail it with your check to Madison County Dept. of Solid Waste, PO Box 27 Wampsville, NY 13163 by September 27th.
